In this session, multilateral climate funds will outline their strategies to partner with Indigenous Peoples and local communities. Indigenous and local community leaders will then share their experiences with direct climate finance. They will lay out their vision for innovative ways to mobilize new sources of financing for nature, scale up successful climate action, and empower local leaders.

This forward-looking session aims not only to broaden understanding on the progress on gender equality and available support on gender-related work within the four funds, but also to have an interactive session between the speakers and audience to exchange views to further the goal of gender equality in climate finance.

Since 2010, the Adaptation Fund has committed over US$ 1.2 billion for climate change adaptation and resilience projects and programs, including over 175 concrete, localized projects in the most vulnerable communities of developing countries around the world with 46 million total beneficiaries. About half of its projects are in Least Developed Countries or Small Island Developing States. It also pioneered Direct Access and Enhanced Direct Access, empowering countries to access funding and develop local projects directly through accredited national implementing entities and was the first climate fund to fully operationalize the global principles of Locally Led Adaptation.
